British retailer Co-op finds new own brand bread baker
British market Co-op has a new breadmaker, tapping a sixth-generation family-owned bakery to supply own brand bread for the retailer.
Hull, England-based Jacksons Bakery, first established in 1851 and baking bread ever since, will bake Co-op store brand bread beginning next year. Not too shabby itself, Co-op just celebrated its 175th anniversary.
“We’re really excited to be working with Co-op on this brilliant opportunity,” said Dorian Hiles, managing director, The William Jackson Food Group, which owns Jacksons. Hiles added that the bakery has a long history with the Co-op and “is closely aligned in terms of quality and values, and it’s great to be able to build on this relationship even further.
The deal between Co-op and Jacksons also includes that the bakery will supply Britain’s largest bakery brand and fifth generation family business Warburtons, which has worked with Co-op for many decades, to enable fresh daily deliveries to be made through its logistic network and distribution hubs.
