Costco Reports Strong April Sales

The warehouse club also reported comparable store sales gains across all divisions.

Sales at Costco for April were up more than 7% as the retailer also reported solid gains in comparable store sales.

For the four weeks ending May 5, the warehouse club reported net sales of $19.8 billion, a 7.1% increase over sales of $18.48 billion in April 2023. The retailer said sales in April were impacted by the shift in the timing of Easter, which negatively impacted total and comparable store sales by about 0.5%. 

Net sales for the first 35 weeks were $166.44 billion, an increase of 7% from $155.62 billion last year.

Company-wide comparable store sales excluding the impact of gas and foreign exchange rates were up 5.5% for the month. By division, U.S. comparable store sales were up 5.2%, up 5.9% in Canada, and up 7% in Other International. E-commerce comparable sales were up 14.8%. 

Costco currently operates 876 warehouses, including 604 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 108 in Canada, 40 in Mexico, 33 in Japan, 29 in the United Kingdom, 18 in Korea, 15 in Australia, 14 in Taiwan, six in China, four in Spain, two in France, and one each in Iceland, New Zealand and Sweden. Costco also operates e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Australia.
