Eurogerm USA, a bakery mix company in Rolling Meadows, Ill., is bringing a popular German treat stateside.

The company has developed a Quarkbällchen Mix that enables home bakers to make the Quarkbällchen donut balls rolled in granular sugar and that have a unique texture and taste from the addition of quark, a cheese similar to yogurt or sour cream, according to the company.

Eurogerm told Store Brands that the company is a dry mix manufacturer and that the mix is available to retailers interested in developing retail packs of the mix along with donut and cake mixes under store brand labels. It said it can also supply dry mixes to retailers looking to make them for their in-store bakeries.

"The donut has a crispy style exterior and a soft, almost spongy interior,” said Rick Gizzi, sales director, Eurogerm USA. “The flavor is a perfect blend of egg and vanilla, with the tartness of the cheese."

Assisting U.S. bakeries and retailers looking to offer the product, Eurogerm has formulated a mix that only requires the addition of water and cheese. More traditional bakeries may seek out quark, but it can also be made with cream cheese or other similar substitutes, the company said.

"We fully expect to see these appearing all over the U.S. soon," says Ben Kansakar, CEO of Eurogerm USA. "They taste amazing, everyone loves to eat them, and our mix makes them very easy for bakeries to produce."
